When to walk away

There was no method in their mother’s madness, it seemed. They said she would just come home, sometimes get irritated over some little thing or at her husband, and then take it out on Meili. “No wonder she was always quiet and withdrawn,” Sharon told me. Then one day, Meili was gone, taking with her only a few of her clothes. Her sisters said two days before Meili went missing, she again suffered a very horrendous night in her mother’s hands.
